Welcome to Fin City!
If you are reading this, you are probably considering registering for membership in the Fin City Finswimming Community. Please do so! - It's free and there are no strings attached. Fin City is a no-profit, non-commercial community dedicated to promoting the wonderful sport of finswimming. Like in every community there are a few rules to be followed though and we would also like to lend you a hand in getting started with the website. So, lets cut through the "Red Tape" and get you a membership...! How to register Joining Fin City is easy! Go to the Sign Up Page and fill in your e-mail address. Please make sure it is a valid one! Type in a password of your choice and click "Submit". You will now be asked to fill in some information about yourself. Nothing sensitive! All data entered here (apart from your name) will only be visible to members! First your name. Though it is quite common nowadays to sign up for websites with an alias, we would like to ask you to join Fin City with your real christian- and surnames. The members you will communicate with here are the same that you will meet at finswimming events like competitions and championships. It would be extremely helpful if we would know each other by our names already. Also, members might meet you at an event and, because they liked you, will be looking for you here. You might have told them your name but if you're registered under an alias they will never find you. It is not obligatory to use your name though. Just do whatever you feel most comfortable with. Next will be your birthday. Hey, you girls ... no cheating! Then, your "Nationality" and "Sex" and then you can upload a picture. Just as with the name it would be nice if you uploaded a real photograph of yourself instead of just an avatar. Just as with the name, though, it is entirely up to you. After going through a few profile questions you can add your blog, if you have one. If you use social bookmarking services like "del.icio.us", "Digg" or "reddit" you can add them here too. Next you can leave a message for our admin. He feels so lonely sometimes and goes bonkers over every kind word he get's. *whisper mode on* A peace of advice. If you write something like: "Hey admin, I've heard so many good things about you", you will have plenty of browny points with him already *whisper mode off* Click on "Submit"! Done!! You see, that didn't hurt too much, did it? You'll get an e-mail about the details to the address you supplied. Welcome to Fin City! So, what is next? Ah yes, completing your profile. Profile Ok, you are a member of Fin City now. There is not an awful lot left to do in your profile. You've done the hard work already when you signed up. Some details you can add though, if you want. Click on "My Page" up in the navigation bar- this will take you to your very own page in Fin City. On the menu over on the right hand site of the screen you'll find the link "Edit Profile". The only thing left to do there is to enter the name of your website (if you have one). The next link is called "Edit Tags". This is more interesting. Here you can describe yourself by tags. Separate them by commas. Sort by descending priority. (e.g. the first tag has the highest priority). Have a look at the examples given in the text field. They'll give you a general idea. Then we'll come to the link "Edit Favourites". There you can tell the community about the things you like, from you favourite song to your favourite city. When you've done all that, there is only one thing left for you to do. Set a residence, so our map shows where you come from. To achieve that you go to the Map Page. By default your placemarker will be set in a place somewhere in the USA. To change that you click on "Set Residence" in the menu on the right und fill in your details. A piece of advice: The window lets you fill in your full address, and if you feel so inclined, do so, but we recommend to fill in the text field "city" and choose your country only. More is not neccessary to place your marker on the map. The map (and therefore your residence) is only visible to members but one shouldn't give out more information in the internet than neccessary. That's it! You are set to go. Go and find fellow finswimmers in the community, get all the information you want about the sport in our wiki and (much more important) participate! Join in the community life! Write posts in the Forum! How to do that you'll find out in the Forum Article here in the wiki. If you are an expert on a finswimming related subject create articles for the Wiki! We provide you with a Manual, that will make it easy for you to do so. A community lives through the aktivties of its members. Help us to make Fin City the "Number One Site" for everything concerning the wonderful sport of finswimming! And who knows? Helping us, you might even win a monofin or even a hyperfin made by TRITON! Find out more about our Competition!
