Homepage
| Homepage | ||
This is where it all begins. The Homepage. It is designed to give you as much information as possible at first glance. We will go through the page with you from top to bottom and explain all the different modules you will encounter.
Header
On the very left you will find the logo of Fin City and on the right hand side you will see the search field. The search field allows you to search Fin City as a whole or just parts of it. Just type your search request into the text field. If you want to search all of Fin City just hit "Enter". If you would like to search a particular part of Fin City, like the Wiki or the Forum, please choose the desired section in the field next to it. The search field will be with you whereever you go inside Fin City but you will find that the "Section" field will change according to the part of the website you are currently visiting. So if you are in the Wiki section the "Section" field will read "Wiki". In this case any search request will be automaticly restricted to the wiki. Of course you can still search the rest of the site. Just change the section in the "Section" field.
Just above the search field are several links. Which ones they are depends on if you are logged in or not. If you are not logged in they will read "Sign In" and "Join". With the first you log in. If you are not a member yet you can sign up with the second. More Information on how to do that you will find in New Members Orientation. If you are already signed in the links will read "My Account" and "Sign Out". The second leads you to the exit, the first takes you to your Account Page. More Information about My Account.
Welcome
Let's move down from the header to the left hand side. The first module you will encounter there is the "Welcome Text" on the very top to make it easier for new users to find their way around the site. It'll give you links to the most important sections of the website.
Top Contributors
The next module down is the "Top Contributors" module. Now that is an interesting module! With these Help Manuals we try and make it as easy as possible for you to actively participate in the Fin City Community, but in the end it is up to you if you really do. The most active members shall get recognised. Everytime you contribute something to the community (creating a wiki article, adding a link to the link list, adding an event to our calendar, etc.) you will get points. The more points you have the higher you will be on the "Top Contributors" list and the more famous you will be inside the community.
Underneith that you'll see the "Beta Reminder".
Photos
The next block will show you the last six photographs added to the Fin City photoalbum. If you want to know how to add your own pictures, or the ones of your club, to the album have a look at the Photoalbum Manual! Next one down is the ...
Share Widget
With this little widget you can support us in making Fin City the biggest finswimming related community in the internet. A click on "Add This" will open a new window titled "Widget Lab". There you will be able to add the "Share Widget" either to social networks like facebook or to blogs, twitter and many other websites including your own. More Information on how to do that you will find in the wiki under Share Widget.
TRITON Competition
Now we come to the centre column. On the very top you'll find the advertisement for the competition we are holding together with the well known finswimming equipment manufacturer TRITON. More information about that you can find under Win a TRITON Monofin With Fin City!
News
Underneith the competition banner we give you the News. Whenever something important happens at Fin City or anywhere else in the finswimming world the Fin City team will post it here. If what you read in a teaser interests you, click on the title and you'll be taken straight to the corresponding article. The Fin City Team will use the news to tell you about all the important events at Fin City. We are constantly working on the website to make it even better for our members. That means that we will add more interesting features in the future. Here we will keep you up-to-date. In this section you will also find short articles about competitions and championships, results, etc. etc. Everything interesting happening in the finswimmimg world will find its way here.
Map
The Map will show you where your fellow members come from. Just like the wiki and the calendar module this is only a teaser module. A click on the title will take you to the real thing. For privacy reasons it is only visible to members, so you must be signed in to see it. Visit the Map Manual in our wiki to find out how to use the feature and how to set your "Residence" to show up correctly on the map.
My Account
In the last row on the right hand side you will find the "My Account" field first. Click on the button and it will tak you to your very own account page. Underneith is a very small advertising block. This is put there by our host to make his service free of charge.
Wiki
Let's move down from the advertising block. The first module you will encounter there is the "Wiki Module". This is obviously not our whole wiki but a teaser module which will show you the titles of the last five wiki articles created or edited. Click on the modules title and it will take you straight to the Wiki Homepage. For more information on how to use the wiki or (even better) how to create or edit an article got to the Wiki Manual.
Calendar
The next module down is the "Events Calendar". Again this is only a small part of the real Calendar. It will show you only the next three upcoming events. A click on them will take you straight to the event. A click on the modules title will let you visit the Calendar Homepage. For more information on the calendar visit the corresponding Calendar Manual in the wiki.
Forum
Underneith the calendar module you'll find the "Forum Module". It'll show you the titles of the last five posts added to the Forum. Click on "Forum" and you'll be taken there, click on one of the titles and you'll end up straight at the respective post.
Newsfeed
The Newsfeed keeps you up-to-date about what is happening inside Fin City. Every time a member contributes something to the community (creating a wiki article, adding a link to the link list, adding an event to our calendar, etc.), it will automatically be posted here.
That was our little guide through the Fin City Homepage. |
