What is a Share Widget?
Share Widgets are a great way to help Fin City to become the most popular finwimming related website on the internet. They enable the members to add a small widget to any website or blog they have, or promote Fin City on social networks like Facebook and Myspace or on Twitter and any other platform. You can also send Share Widgets by Email to all your friends, send them as bookmarks to Del.icio.us, Digg, Google Bookmarks and many others, or display them on your desktop.
You will find a Share Widget on almost every page of Fin City. It's a little application that can be added to any website and shows some information like the logo, the newest members and some additional info related to the particular page the widget is found. For example, if you use the Share Widget displayed on the Calendar page, by default it'll show the upcoming events, if you choose the one on the Link page it'll show te latest links.
Visitors of the website the widget is displayed on will find links to the Fin City Homepage and page specific information. At the bottom of every Share Widget the visitor will find a link that'll allow him to join Fin City. Like this we can all promote this community! Every Share Widget has a blue "+ Add This" button at the top. A click on it will open a little window which gives you the opportunity to add the widget to many platforms or customize the coulors and add the HTML code to your own website.
Add the Share Widget to a social platform
Click the "+ Add This" at the top of any Share Widget you'd like to add to another website. A little window will open. On the top (left hand side) are the logos of all major social networks. Click on the one you want to add the widget to, and fill in the log in details of your network account. This information will not be saved! It only serves once to add the widget. Follow the instructions the particular network will give you. For additional assistence, please post your question in the forum under Website.
Add the Share Widget to a Bookmarking Service
You can also add the Share Widget to bookmarking services like Del.icio.us, Digg, Google Bookmarks and many others. To do so click again on the "+ Add This" button and choose the tab "Bookmark" above the network logos. Now you'll see the logos of several bookmarking services. Add the Share Widget to any or all of them. The procedure is similar to the the network one and differs from service to service. Please feel free to get additional advise in our forum if needed.
Send the Share Widget by Email
The tab next to "Bookmark" reads "Email". This gives you the opportunity to send the Share widget to whoever you want to, as long as you have their email address. You can either enter the address manualy, or (to facilitate the procedure if you want to send the widget to all of your friends) you can import the addresses from some of the major email services.
To add an address manualy just type in your friends email address, your own name, choose if you want to the details to be remembered by the application (this helps if you intend to send more emails at a later date) and click on send. Done!
To import addresses from your address book at either Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo or AOL just click on the particular logo. fill in your login details. Again: This information will not be saved, but please UNCHECK the "Remember Me" box! You can now decide if you want to use all of the imported addresses or none. You can also add more addresses manualy. If you click "Clear Info" all information will be deleted. In this case you would have to import the addresses again if you want to repeat the process.
Add the Share Widget to your desktop
Adding the widget to your desktop is pretty much straight forward. You can either add it to the Windows Vista Sidebar or to Yahoo! Widgets. Whatever application you choose it'll have to be installed on your computer first. The Windows Sidebar comes with Windows Vista. The Yahoo! Widgets application you can download from Yahoo (see "External Links" below). Once the particular application is installed, click on the "Desktop" tab and choose the logo of the application. Install and run the file. Done!
